Kpler People: Gen Yang, Data Scientist

This article is the second of a series of five originally published on Linkedin.

Kpler's products are built and enhanced within our Paris and Singapore locations, comprising more than 35 engineers and data scientists. Gen Yang represents a key part of this development team. Originally born in China, Gen moved to France at the age of 14 before eventually going on to obtain his PhD in machine learning (Université de Technologie de Compiègne).

When asked about his motivation to join Kpler (2016), Gen said that "Kpler was exactly what I was looking for - a company with its own core products and proprietary solutions as well as a desire to solve problems in specific fields of interest."

Given Gen's expertise, his role is multifaceted with his input required on many projects as he makes clear "Sometimes I lean more on the technical aspects as a data engineer and at other times I rely on my knowledge of data science to drive the development of modelling solutions." In the last four years, Gen has played a vital role in helping to shape Kpler products as they are today.

Finally, Gen adds that "What I like most in my job is that I get to see how the tools I help create add value for end-users. I also appreciate the culture of Kpler, my colleagues are great and the team is always open-minded and eager to help one another."
