End Item
A product or repair part sold as a completed item. An item included in a customer order or sales forecast.

End User
The final buyer of a product. The person or business that uses the product.

End-of-Life Inventory
In stock inventory that will satisfy projected future demand for products that are no longer being produced at a company.

Engineer to Order
A type of manufacturing process in which a product is designed, engineered and finished after an order has been received.

Engineering Change

Engineering Change Order (ECO)
An approved, documented, revision to a product or process specification.

Enroute
A term used to describe goods in transit or on the way to a destination.

Enterprise Application Integration (EAI)
The translation of data and other commands from one application format into another such as those used in linking ERP and other enterprise systems together.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System
Software systems designed to manage a manufacturing or distribution enterprise. Often broken down into modules for Purchasing, Inventory, Manufacturing, etc.

Entry Form
Document that is filed with Customs to obtain the release of imported goods and allow collection of duties and statistics. Also called a Customs Entry Form or Entry.

Enveloping
In EDI, a software function that groups all documents of the same type, or functional group, and bound for the same destination into an electronic envelope.

Environmentally Sensitive Engineering
Considering environmental factors, such as recycling and reducing or eliminating pollutants, when designing products and packaging.

Equipment
In logistics, the major items used to facilitate transportation services such as containers, trucks, trailers, chassis, railcars, vessels, and airplanes.

Equipment I.D.
Carrier assigned identifier for a piece of equipment. See also Container I.D.

Equipment Positioning
Placing equipment at a selected location.

Ergonomic
The design of equipment and the workplace to reduce fatigue and discomfort. This is intended to improve morale and productivity.

Estimate Time of Arrival (ETA)
The date and time a shipment is expected to arrive at the destination.

Estimate Time of Departure (ETD)
The date and time a shipment is expected to leave a shipping location.

Ethical Standards
Principles, guidelines, and standards that are considered proper for business professionals.

Evaluated Receipts Settlement (ERS)
Eliminates the invoice by using the actual receipts of the shipping documentation to pay for goods when the unit price has already been negotiated.

Ex Works
Buyer takes possession of the goods at the origin and bears all costs and risks associated with transporting the goods to the destination.

Exception Rate
A rate that deviates from the standard class rate for the goods being shipped.

Exclusive Patronage Agreements
Ocean and air pricing systems where a shipper signing an exclusive use agreement with the conference pays a 10 to 15 percent lower rate than others.

Exclusive Use
When a carrier assigns specific vehicles or equipment to be used by only one shipper.

Exempt Carrier
A motor carrier that transports unregulated property (such as aggricultural commodities) owned by others for compensation. Not subject to some regulations.
